In terms of the origin stories of the big 5 religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism), I am a skeptic. But I’m constantly seeking sources of information to challenge my skepticism and to challenge my own beliefs (and non-beliefs). And in the search for these counter-arguments and fresh perspectives, I’ve found, and developed a strong affinity for a podcast called “How God Works.” The podcast is hosted by Dave DeSteno, who received his PhD in psychology at Yale and is now a professor of psychology at Northeastern University. I’ve listened to every episode of the podcast and what keeps me going back is DeSteno’s inter-religious approach in providing credible, actionable and relatable discussions about religion and faith. It challenges my thinking, which I find healthy and energizing. Whether you’re a devout believer or a hardened skeptic, this podcast is worthwhile. If you are not familiar with it, start with the episode titled “Rethinking Sin”, which I think is among the best. I’ve become a huge fan of Dave DeSteno and I hope you like his podcast as well.
